Back Pain will be Gone with the Anywhere Back Comfort Lumbar Cushion!

Y’all, I love this thing! Seriously, I sit for way too many hours a week. I sit while working, I sit on planes, I sit in the car…and I’m ALWAYS uncomfortable. The human body wasn’t meant to be seated for so long, and it shows in the increase in back pain sufferers we’ve seen since office and desk jobs became the norm. Like many sufferers, most chairs and seats don’t seem to be made for my height and back curve, and there’s always this weird gap that creates discomfort around my upper and lower back after just a few minutes of sitting. At home, I can easily fix the problem without worrying about looking ridiculous propped up on a few pillows, but not looking weird in public is somewhat important to me, which is why I have been so sad about the ginormous bed pillow behind me in the driver’s seat of my car. And now, with the portable, memory foam-filled Anywhere Back Comfort Lumbar Cushion, there’s an answer for all of us suffering from back pain in public places!Unlike other back pads, the Anywhere Back Comfort Lumbar Cushion isn’t just a single, thin pad, it’s two strategically-placed, extremely plush tubes that are attached to each other and can conform to fill gaps between chairs and your back. It can be placed vertically or horizontally, and is easy to attach anywhere with the included velcro strap. The memory foam inside really does an amazing job of relieving the pressure that builds up, and best of all, it doesn’t look ridiculous!

The Anywhere Back Comfort Lumbar Cushion is easy to take along with you anywhere because it rolls up into a smallish 3 x 9 x 3″ package, so it can fit into my backpack if need be. While it’s remained in the driver’s seat of my car since I first got it, I can’t wait to take it with me on my next plane trip! If I worked in an office, I would totally use it there, but since my office is my kitchen table, I’ll just keep my pillows there for now, until I can justify splurging for a second one.

Unlike my previous pillow, which my hubby would just chuck behind him whenever it was his turn to drive somewhere, making it look like I frequent the backseat for naps, the Anywhere Back Comfort Lumbar Cushion can stay in place without bothering users who don’t need it for their backs. So if you share an office chair, it’s ideal because it’s not cumbersome or unattractive – your chairmate may even find that they feel more comfortable sitting down, too, so be careful of people trying to steal your Anywhere Back Comfort Lumbar Cushion!

Baby’s Got (a healthy) Back Thanks to the Healthy Back Bag!

File under: , , ,

When it comes to bags, I like them round and big to carry all of the junk that would otherwise be in my trunk.* But that’s terrible for my back and shoulder! One of my shoulders used to be so much lower than the other because of my bag!!!

So for my day-to-day dealings I keep my spinal curves in check with the Healthy Back Bag tote ($49-$150 depending upon size chosen and material used)! It’s plain awesome and incredibly perfect for anything from plane travel to backpacking, and here’s why:

1. It’s ergonomic! What does that mean? The Healthy Back Bag tote fits your body like a puzzle piece – instead of laying a flat surface against the curve of your back, it curves with your back, taking a whole lot of pressure off and distributing the weight more evenly!

2. It’s light as a feather! The Healthy Back Bag tote in nylon feels frighteningly light – when I’m triking or walking around I often have to touch the bag to make sure that it’s still there!

3. It’s fantastic for people who love pockets!
My name is Nancy Redd, and I’m a pocket-o-holic. My fix of choice is the Healthy Back Bag tote . Each bag has five to six pockets to safely store all of your stuff! When it’s on your back, there’s no way a thief could get to your valuables as they can be zipped inside in a way that takes quite a bit of effort to extract. This is also good to prevent impulse shopping, hee hee hee.

The Healthy Back Bag tote is unisex and veritile, and they have all kinds of versions – diaper bag, carry-all, small, large, you name it! So pitch the pain out of the window and get a Healthy Back Bag tote !

*Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby’s Got Back will never go out of style!

More Healthy Holiday Gifts!

File under: , , , , , ,

We’ve got stocking stuffers pretty much covered, but many of us (including myself) are still wrestling with last minute gifts to get. Here are some easy, yet health options for a few folks who might be on your list!

For the Allergy-Prone: Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Bedding Encasements and Pillow Protectors ($40-180)

Seriously, if you know someone who sneezes and hacks when waking up, the problem might actually be found in their pillow and mattress. Without getting into too much ick, know that the average pillow contains well over a pound of bug, um, *leftovers,* not to mention the dander, bacteria, and dust that naturally collects everywhere. This debris causes individuals to have hay fever-like syndromes without truly being sick. The Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Bedding Encasements and Pillow Protectors could CHANGE YOUR RECIPIENT’S LIFE. Not only will these products keep bugs from getting into your pillows and bedding, but they also ward against spills and staining – including child and pet accidents.

For the Cyberchondriac:
Merck Manual Home Health Handbook ($25-30)

Do you have a friend or family member who thinks they have mono every time they cough because they’re so quick to search the ‘Net for illnesses that relate to their symptoms? Wean them off of their weary routine with a more practical, accessible, and easier to manage option for their habit. The Merck Manual Home Health Handbook is an excellent household resource for everyone from teens off to college to the elderly. Written by over two hundred internationally respected medical experts, it covers everything from what a baby’s temperature should actually be to how to recognize signs of gout in Grandpa.

For the Music Lover: V-Moda Noise Isolating Headphones ($60)

While not directly health related, these V-Moda Noise Isolating Headphones can make a world of difference when trying to get through workouts. They don’t fall out of one’s ear, they’re extremely clear, and they block out outside noises while enhancing the sound of your music, enabling you to focus on your workout and not your neighbor’s arguments. Unlike many expensive pairs of headphones, these show little sign of wear and tear at connection points after frequent use, so you can be certain that your recipient will be getting your money’s worth!

For the Frequent Traveler:
GoFit Ultimate Pro Gym in a Bag ($30)

This compact present packs a lot in one punch – it’s an entire strength training program in a tiny little bag! Good for both males and females, as well as for the fit and unfit, the GoFit Ultimate Pro Gym in a Bag is a great gift that can go anywhere so your recipient can train anytime. Now there’s no excuse for missing a workout, which will help with those New Year Resolutions!

Toning While Traveling!

File under: , , ,

Oh, how I long for when checked bags were once free! I’m a frequent traveler, and while I’ve learned to live on the road without high heels I knew I’d never wear while clomping through snowy Albany or a “just-in-case” jacket while in Texas during the heat of summer, there are some travel pieces I just couldn’t stand to part with as I traded in my two ginormous suitcases for a teeny-weeny carry-on.

As a writer and a speaker, I live a pretty sedentary lifestyle, and staying healthy and active really matters to me, so I had to figure out how to adapt my workout routine to fit not just my lifestyle but also my luggage!

In my quest for Michelle Obama arms, I’ve started weight-lifting at least three times a week, so I was thrilled when I stumbled upon AquaBells DumbBells, a set of collapsible weights that easily fit into my laptop backpack when empty. Once in my hotel room, I can fill them up with water from the tub faucet and go to town!

To minimize the inevitable rump spread stemming from frequently sitting 10-12 hours in a seat (plane, car, train, or computer desk), my trusty exercise bands that I already owned easily fit in the front pocket of my carry-on and are great to add a little bit of resistance to easy exercises like leg lifts. I’m considering upgrading them to one of these, which has handles and comes with a door attachment, allowing for a healthy variety of space-saving exercises to keep boredom at bay.

And for those long-haul JFK-LAX or overseas flights, I never leave home without my Travel FitDeck, which (as the name implies) is like a deck of playing cards, but with directions for great stretches and exercises one can do in the comfort of one’s airplane seat. Granted, I’ve gotten some funny looks from my seatmate before, but on more than one occasion they’ve actually joined along!
