Take Advantage of Lands End’s Summer Sale: Shop Back to School!

Now’s a great time to shop at Lands End, they’ve posted their summer sale on many items like women’s bathing suits, their canvas totes and more. But one of the things I checked out as soon as I saw the sale posted was their backpack section and sure enough, several of the backpack models are on sale this week.

Like this Eco-friendly Backpack, that I’m tempted to get for myself. It’s normally $59.90 but this week it’s on sale for $49.50 (great savings!). It’s designed for ages 10 and up and made of 100% recycled fabric. There’s a padded laptop sleeve inside for high school and college kids who are hauling their laptops to and fro, and a cell/MP3 player pocket on the shoulder strap. I love it in the Iris for a girl or the chocolate brown for a boy. Have it monogrammed to add that personal touch!

Or the Professional Backpack, which is normally $59.50 but is down to $29.99! They sell it in black only as it’s intended for work use. As you’d expect with a work backpack, it has a section for a laptop and sturdy straps that can handle extra weight.

And lastly, don’t forget to check out the swim wear sale – now is a fantastic time to stock up on bathing suits for the last month of summer and for great sales for next year!

The Beach Essential We Couldn’t Live Without: Wonder Wheeler

Last week, I wrote up a piece on some Beach Essentials For You and Your Kids. I was packing for a beach trip and was thinking of all the items I couldn’t live without on the beach with two growing boys.

One major item I forgot in the review that I was reminded of was our Wonder Wheeler. I’m shocked to have forgotten it on my initial list, because after having spent the weekend at the beach, I’m considering it one of my top beach essentials.

For years, I saw people using these carts on the beach and to be honest, thought they looked a little stupid. I thought they seemed like a waste of money when you can clearly cart all the items you need without the help of a tool such as this. How wrong I was.

Last year, after reading a particularly glowing review on the Wonder Wheeler, I thought I’d give it a try and see what all the fuss was about. While I *can* get to the beach without the Wonder Wheeler, having it makes our life so much easier.
This beach cart is so worth the money. You can hang folding beach chairs off of it, not to mention the mesh bag that holds all of the sand toys and items you may need while you’re playing at the beach. The mesh part of it is fabulous of course too since you can toss sandy toys in and the sand just falls out of the bottom of the cart as you roll it back off the beach.

Where it used to take both my husband and I to lug all of our items down to the beach (sometimes in two trips), now just one of us can get our entire load down the beach with the Wonder Wheeler. Get it at various retailers for $52.99. Shop around because shipping can be hefty on this heavier product.

Shade Your Family This Summer with a Sun Smarties Beach Cabana

File under: , ,

Years ago, I bought a Family Beach Cabana Tent from One Step Ahead. While it’s changed in color and design over the years, the overall concept is the same. In fact, this year’s model is supposedly better than ever.

These family sized tents provide much needed shade on the beach on any given day. The tent itself protects up to SPF 50+ and it has tons of ventilation on either side with panels on the sides and zippered flaps and roll down shades to provide more sun protection and privacy for the family. We’ve been using ours for years and it comfortably fits two adults and two kids (although not much beyond).

I just love having this. While both of my boys are very active and mobile at ages 6 & 3, we’re the type of family to head down to the beach for hours at a time. They get tired. Having the pop up tent gives them a little spot to rest, lay or just dig in the sand in the shade for moments at a time.

It pops up quickly and folds away to a flat circle size that’s easy to store. When open, it stays put with the help of stakes and pockets that you fill with sand to weigh it to down. Admittedly, it takes a few times to get the fold down when you’re putting it away – you get used to it and my husband and I are now pros at putting it together and taking it down.

Check out the Sun Smarties Family Cabana Tent from One Step Ahead. They’ve added a little flag to the top too – helpful on a crowded beach when you’re trying to spot your group.

Well worth the $79.95. One Step Ahead is always good for a coupon code too. Do a search if these don’t work but some current codes include SHIP85 for free shipping on orders over $85 and FIFTEEN for 15% off an order of $85 or more. (If you get this tent, just find something for a few dollars, add it and then the coupon will apply!)

A stylish gym bag: Lug Life

File under: , , ,

A favorite of mine for the gym is my Lug Life Mini Puddle Shoulder Bag. A friend of mine turned me onto these bags a few years ago and they are all the rage at my local gym now. I may be sweaty but you can’t say I’m not stylish when I’m slinging my clothes in one of these bags.

It’s the perfect size to fit all your daily needs – a towel, change of clothes, pair of shoes. I’ve also used this bag for an overnight for business. It’s incredibly comfortable – the entire bag is a nice padded material. And there’s plenty of extra storage and pockets as you can see from the photos.

The price can not be beat – get this bag at eBags for $44 (normally $55 but currently an extra 20% off for their winter sale). It’s available in multiple fun colors – I carry it in pink.

Turning heads with my laptop bag

File under: , , , ,

A couple of years ago, I received the Marilyn diaper bag from Timi & Leslie. I remember when I first opened it up, I was literally drooling over its beauty. My next thought was that I no longer needed a diaper bag, as my baby-turned-toddler at the time didn’t require much when I was out and about.

A week or so later, in one of those “duh, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that right away” moments, I considered if this bag would fit my laptop. Sure enough, it did. And from then on, this swanky bag became my laptop bag.

I use a thin sleeve to keep the laptop protected when it’s in there, but it fits quite nicely. As I typically take this bag when I’m headed to a conference or trade show, I use the front pouches for business cards and my cell phone. The system is beautiful. And the last time I carried it was to two-day women in blogging conference: I got no less than a dozen compliments from random people walking by me. It’s definitely a head turner.

The best part – the price. It’s currently listed at $131 (normally $180 but currently on sale). For a stylish laptop or diaper bag (because, hey, I should acknowledge that that’s what this really is – it comes with a bottle holder, changing pad and other necessary infant items), the price is right. I carry the purple color and it’s stunning.

The Right Booster Seat For Holiday Travel

File under: ,

The gift of safety is perhaps sweetest during the holidays, when millions of Americans are crossing over the river and through the woods to see Grandma and the rest of the gang.

With more states expanding age limits for kids riding in booster seats, you’ll probably see more families toting the Clek Olli seat through the airport this year (so they can use it on the other end in Granny’s car).

Recommended for kids 4 and up (over 40 pounds), MomFinds picked up the Olli because of the “strap thingy,” a special carrying strap that promised to take the hassle out of carting it on vacation. We kept it when we realized the seat didn’t make us feel like we were carrying another kid around. At 5 pounds, Clek’s Olli is small enough to tote around with ease, and the seat cover choices ensure it’s cute enough that your kid will want to spend time in it.

Unlike most booster seats, it’s made to function with a car’s LATCH system, and easy clips keep your fingers from getting pinched. It makes a handy highchair in the airport lounge, too. It’s a gift of safety for toddlers and young kids, but it’s really a gift of peace of mind for Mom and Dad.
